Star Wars Episode III

Star Wars Episode III.......speachless. I would dare say that Lucas has redeemed his name and his entire franchise. Script, special effects, costume, acting. I can only find one flaw with this movie. The one flaw was the fact that it ended at all. I could have sat there for another two hours.

If you have not seen this movie then you are missing out. Buy your ticket now, you will thank me later.

Half Life 2, o the pain and joy.

Half-Life 2 is a great game with two fallbacks. The first one is the fact that the story ends where it did. I can't say much more on it's ending without giving it away. Just know that this laid-back gamer was extremely mad that the story came to an abrupt end.

The second problem with Half-Life 2 is Counter-Strike: Source. Counter-Strike is a very popular in-house modification to the original Half-Life. So when it came time to create the multiplayer aspect of the game the developers decided to upgrade Counter-Strike and add that as their multiplayer facet of the game. If this was just a straight port of the original it would have been an asset to the game, but instead of just porting the mod they started reworking some of the finer points of the game. Counter-Strike: Source looks like Counter-Strike but does not feel like Counter-Strike. Inevitably it is just a mire shadow of the original instead of a upgrade.

All in all the single-player game is awesome. The story is in-depth and well-written. The graphics are beautiful and stand out even on lower-end gaming rigs. The clever use of level design and special effects are aweing. Even with the other two mentioned shortcomings this is the best FPS to date.

Hitch Hikers Guide to Greatness

Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy was exactly what it should have been: a light-hearted tongue-in-cheek rendition of Douglas Adams' beloved book. I have heard many people did not like this film. In fact, 3 people walked out of the theater at the showing I watched. (here in Grand Rapids, MI, we don't walk out unless it's really bad) I think the only real drawback to this film is the fact that people were expecting something very different walking in.

This film is not a Sci-Fi extravaganza. It does not have your common Hollywood humor. It plays on the assumptions of science with a very British comedic flair. The movie, as well as the book, challenges our perceived knowledge of the universe in a silly and light-hearted way.

This is not I, Robot or Star Wars. This is Monty Python in space. Once you have come to terms with that you can sit back and enjoy the ride. I would like every one who has seen the movie previously to go back and watch it again after reading this review.

This movie is not for everyone but it is sure to become a cult classic.
